Fashion How To: Always Look Stylish

Good Morning Loves xoxo

Ok so imagine you are walking down the street and you bump into that person that you really don't like, that person who no matter how much you try you just cant overcome that strong feeling to punch them in the face and laugh...... Ok so now imagine bumping into them while wearing sweat pants, Ugg boots, your hubbies hoodie and hair looking like you've been dragged through a hedge backwards, not a pleasant sight it it? We all have off days but it's usually those days when we run to the shop in our pyjamas that we meet everyone and their granny and we feel like being swallowed up by a black hole never to be seen again.

No matter where I go I usually make some sort of an effort to look as polished as possible with as little effort and energy that I can exert. I have a few tips and tricks to help you feel a little more put together while running errands but with minimal time and effort.

First tip - Invest in a good capsule wardrobe

First of all figure out what your "style" is. I don't have a particular style that I stick to daily because I like to mix it up a bit depending on my mood but a capsule wardrobe should consist of pretty much staple pieces that can be mixed and matched to create loads of different outfits. A capsule wardrobe should be basic but with key pieces that will make an outfit look chic or sophisticated so you are never stuck for an outfit for any occasion.

Cami tops are a good starting investment for a capsule wardrobe. Invest in a few plain, lacy and satin cami's in a few different colours, I recommend black, white, nude, grey and pink. I would also include a few shirts, trousers, cardigans, jeans, dresses (one black one), a blazer or 2, neutral flat shoes, heels (black and nude) a pair of boots and walking shoes. Add a few bracelets, a necklace that will match most items, a few scarves and 2 good purses that are neutral shades (black, brown or nude).

With these items you will never be stuck for an outfit and you will always look stylish.

Second tip - Style Formula

The key to nailing any specific style or look is figuring out what pieces fit with those looks and only sticking to items in that category so you will end up with a unified look be it boho, trendy, classic or casual. If you know what pieces go with what category any outfit can be thrown together quite quickly.

Casual

Casual looks are totally acceptable attire as long as you are styling them right..... They include hoodies, leggings, sneakers, beanies etc. Try to stick to either 1 or 2 colours to help keep the look sleek and unified. Try to keep your items balanced, pair a oversized sweatshirt with leggings or skinny jeans so you don't look frumpy or loose your figure.

Trendy

Nailing the trendy look is quite easy and straight forward. Try to focus more on your accessories and whatever cut is fashionable at the moment i.e. crop tops, cold shoulder tops, high waisted pants, ripped jeans etc. Add hats, purses, shoes/boots, scarves and jewellery to your outfit to really make the outfit pop. Hats are probably one of the easiest ways to make an outfit look trendy with minimal effort and it also helps if like me sometimes you just couldn't be bothered to wash your hair every day.

Classic

If you have a more classic, girly or simple style this part is for you. Pair simple tees or dresses with military or denim jackets, these pieces go really well together and will have a classic feel. Striped tops and skinny jeans are staple pieces for this look, adding a military jacket with some flats screams classic chic.

Boho

Bohemian style focus on floaty fabrics, relaxed looks, loose dresses, fringed bags and gladiator sandals. Pair a floaty dress with a fringed bag, gladiator sandals, a fishtail braid and some hair chains to nail this look. This style is very relaxed and casual but its so elegant when done right.

Glam

Sleek and elegant are two words that best describe a Glam style. This look focuses more on sleek and effortless hair, flawless makeup and strong silhouettes. This look is so easy to achieve with an all black outfit and a pop of colour on the lips (red is always a good choice, Ruby Woo or Lady Danger from Mac are always good choices)

I usually move between all of these styles depending on the time of year, occasion and my mood but I will always stick to one style when I am choosing an outfit for a particular occasion. I know sometimes it is impossible to look polished and put together all the time but if you do a little preparation the day before as to what you want to wear believe me you will feel all the better leaving the house the next day knowing that if you do run into anyone you know you wont want the earth to swallow you up.

I hope you all have an amazing weekend x

Love

Kim xoxo
