Top 5 free things to do in Las Vegas

Hi my loves x

Those of you that know me know I love to travel. One of my all time favourite places to travel is Las Vegas, we go every year. Some people don't understand why we travel to the same place every year and its almost impossible to explain why but its like a home away from home. Its definitely a place you need to see at least once in your life, love it or hate it. For me its the huge variety of things to do, every time we go back there are more shows, more hotels to see and more places to eat. Las Vegas can definitely be done on a budget though, you just need to have a plan in place before you travel. Research places to stay that wont break the bank, look for places that do offers on food or go to the massive buffets. If you plan on gambling bring a separate gambling fund and stick to it because its too easy to get carried away.

For those of you looking to do Las Vegas on a budget there are loads of free things to do. I am going to list my top 5 favourite things but there are so many more things to do . Do your research before you travel, it will save you heaps of money believe me its so easy to get caught up in the craziness of sin city.

1. The Fremont St Experience

Fremont Street is located a few miles from the strip, its only a few dollars in a taxi but totally worth it. Downtown Las Vegas , a strip of old Vegas has been turned into a pedestrianised street of casinos and restaurants. The main attraction, a huge canopy the length of the street has nightly light shows. Each show has a different theme and song so your bound to see a few different ones while you are there. They have live music in different areas of the street so there is something for everyone. There are outside bars so you can get a drink while watching the light show. Our favourite casino is called the bayou, they give out mardi gras beads when you enter and they do the most amazing frozen cocktails.

Another newer attraction in Fremont st is Slothzilla. It is a zip line the length of the canopy. Although you have to pay for this one it looks awesome. If its not your cup of tea its always fun to watch the terrified people zip past you while you watch the show.

2. The Las Vegas Welcome Sign

This is probably the most touristy thing to do while you are in Vegas but its a must. The most iconic welcome sign in the world is located on south Las Vegas boulevard. Its open 24 hours so any time of the day or night is suitable for pictures. My favourite time to get a picture is when it just starts to get dark and they turn on the lights. A word of advice though, be prepared to wait in line for a little while because everyone and their granny wants a picture. The line usually moves quite quickly so your not left waiting for very long and there are loads of people around that will be more than happy to take a picture for you, don't be afraid to ask someone.

3.The Bellagio Conservatory and Botanical Gardens

The Bellagio Hotel is located pretty much in the centre of the strip, across from Paris. The hotels conservatory is a definite must see. It is decorated seasonally for Christmas, Chinese New Year, Spring, Summer and fall, With ponds, gazebos, bridges, water features and the most amazing display of fresh flowers for spring and summer to giant Christmas trees, fake snow, giant baubles and gingerbread houses for winter. Each season is unique and amazing. With experts on hand in the mornings to answer any questions you might have about the gardens to live music in the evening you are never short of something to do.

4. The Fountains at the Bellagio

The fountains at the Bellagio are probably one of the most recognised attractions in Las Vegas. They are one of the most iconic free shows the strip has to offer. Each song is uniquely choreographed to a particular display and each show is different from the next. The most recent addition to the show is a song by Tiesto, I haven't seen this show yet but its on my list for September. The Fountains go every 1/2 hour from 3pm-8pm and every 15 Min's from 8pm - midnight Monday-Friday and every 1/2 hr from 12-8 on Saturday and Sunday. All shows are weather permitted and wont go ahead in very high winds. Definitely a must see in Vegas.

5. The Volcano at the Mirage

The Volcano is another free show on the strip. It usually runs from 7pm-11pm every 1/2 hour but it can change seasonally so sometimes it starts at 8pm. The giant volcano outside the Mirage Hotel is a spectacular show with huge explosions, fireballs and a massive volcanic eruption. Legendary Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart and Indian music composer Zakir Hussain are responsible for the ground shaking soundtrack for the show. If you do decide to go see the Volcano be warned it can get quite hot if you stand too close but I definitely recommend it. You can see the show from one of the balconies in the Venetian if you don't want to get too close.

So there you have it, 5 things that are a must see while in Vegas that you can do day or night. I know Las Vegas isn't every ones cup of tea just like a sun holiday isn't every ones cup of tea but its definitely a holiday you'll never forget. Love it or hate it Vegas has something to offer for everyone.

Love
Kim xoxo
